Melbourne based artist Paul W Ruiz will be guest artist at Nyora Studio Gallery.

WORKSHOP:

“EXCAVATIONS: Unlocking Creative Change”

This workshop aims to challenge the students response to the figure and the role it plays in their art making. As a participant you will…

*Deepen your understanding around developing your own visual language though painting and drawing.

*Discuss and devise strategies for tackling creative blocks or perceived ‘weaknesses’ and unlock new directions in your work.

*Gain insight into harnessing the pressure of personal or external influences in order to challenge and extend your art practice.

Students will work with a life model for approximately 3 hours. Students are also asked to bring along a sample of ‘in-progress’ work (can be a painting, drawing or sketchbook) so that specific case studies can be discussed in relation to the aim of the workshop.

On Saturday November 21 Melbourne based artist Paul W Ruiz was the guest artist at Nyora Studio Gallery.

‘In A Minute’

‘In a minute’ is an exploration of the quick sketch.

What starts as a quick pen and ink sketch, is transformed and adapted. The basic lines of rhythm within the figure, are expressed through contour .The quickness of the drawing means the main priority is with the essence of the pose. The charm of the monoprint is in its spontaneity and its combination of, painting printmaking and drawing.

10 Minute Paintings

In the Figure Painting Class the students produced this series of painting. Each painting was done in 10 minutes. We focused on our response to the pose. The urgency of limited time to do a painting produced some interesting results.
