Emmy Mavroidis is completing a Master of Fine Art by research at The University of Melbourne. She was awarded the Stuart Black Memorial Scholarship for drawing excellence in 2022. A Master of Contemporary Art degree has also been earned by her in 2020.
Emmy is a multidisciplinary artist. Her practice-based research focuses on drawing: gestural mark making, the body and movement as an expression of an idea or feeling through the somatic effect on material and site. Drawing serves as a conduit for emotional expression, allowing artists to impart their feelings directly onto paper through their movements. This physical interaction with the medium can convey intensity, subtlety, and nuance, capturing the artist’s internal state in tangible form. Through gestures, the artist’s raw emotion and energy are embedded into the artwork, creating a visceral connection with the observer.
Emmy’s work has been exhibited internationally and in national exhibitions including a residency at Draw International, Caylus, France, in 2023. In 2020 Emmy was a recipient of the Art and Cultural Development Grant, Nillumbik Council for Art in the Time of COVID-19. In 2019 she was the Winner of the Arnold Block Leibler Award at the Yering Station Sculpture Prize. In 2018 Finalist, Lorne Sculpture Biennale, Small Sculpture Prize, Lorne, Victoria, and in the Montalto Sculpture Award. 2016 SEAS(S) Arts International Exhibition, Ionian Center for Arts and Culture, Kefalonia, Greece. 2015 Finalist, Hutchins Art Prize, Hobart Tasmania. 2015 Finalist, Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, PLC Sydney NSW. 2014 – 2013 Semi-finalist – Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, Juniper Hall, Paddington Sydney, NSW 2016.
