Melody Spangaro

Monochromatic. Drawing.                Contemporary Art.

Melody Spangaro, a talented artist based in Naarm/Melbourne, creates monochromatic, drawing-based works that capture experiences, memories, and emotional responses to natural environments. Her art explores the intersections of nature, culture, philosophy, and art, seeking to document these elements through her unique mark-making techniques.

Her large, expressive pieces aim to develop a visual language that addresses universal themes and contemporary anxieties. In 2021, Melody earned a Master of Contemporary Art from The University of Melbourne, having previously received the Stuart Black Memorial Scholarship for drawing excellence in 2019 and the Carolyn and Hans Varney Award in 2021.

Since 2016, Melody has exhibited her work extensively, including solo exhibitions at George Paton Gallery in Melbourne and M16 Artspace in Canberra. Her achievements include winning the M16 Drawing Prize in 2020 and the FLG Exploration 21 People’s Choice Award in 2021. In 2022, she was a finalist for the M16 Drawing Prize, the Boynes Emerging Artist Award, and the Ginninderry Drawing Prize.
